Force FreeBSD to Run Startup Scripts Without Rebooting

I wondered about this for quite a while and eventually saw the answer while looking for other information. Sometimes I make a change to some startup files and I just want to rerun the startup without having to go through POST and all the other startup before the computer gets to the OS.

With root privileges execute the command:
shutdown now

This will give you a screen that looks like
Enter full pathname of shell or RETURN for /bin/sh:

Press enter to select the shell. I’m not qualified to say if this is the same as booting into single user mode or not.

Type
exit

The system will run the startup scripts and ask you to log in just as usual!

a commercial document showing that the holder is entitled to something[…]

Well…

  1. We had tickets
  2. We were there before the movie began
  3. Continue reading “Sundance Tickets Are Worthless” »

Proof Ghandi Was Human

There really is much more proof than this but I just found this so hilarious in the context I read it. This is from a chapter in the book where Ghandi is exposing himself to more religions than his own. A Christian friend gives him a Bible to read and he has some difficulty getting through the Old Testament. I find it so funny because I remember feeling the same way about some of the first books of the Old Testament.

From Ghandi An Autobiography: The Story of My Experiments With Truth p.68

I read the book of Genesis, and the chapters that followed invariably sent me to sleep. But just for the sake of being able to say I had read it, I plodded through the other books with much difficulty and without the least interest or understanding. I disliked reading the book of Numbers.
