Hey There Delilah – Plain White T’s

Hey there Delilah
What’s it like in New York City?
I’m a thousand miles away
But girl tonight you look so pretty
Yes you do
Times Square can’t shine as bright as you
I swear it’s true

Hey there Delilah
Don’t you worry about the distance
I’m right there if you get lonely
Give this song another listen
Close your eyes
Listen to my voice it’s my disguise
I’m by your side

Time To Get Out of The Water

Had to post this after my kayaking experience the other day. Hmmm, I think I’ll stick to the lake rather than the shark infested waters…..

What Keeps Poor Countries Poor

Reason Magazine has an article titled Why Poor Countries Are Poor. I wasn’t sure what to expect when reading it but it does cover some things that anyone who’s tried to help development in a poor country will notice right away. I found this paragraph to sum up the major points:

There’s no point investing in a business because the government will not protect you against thieves. (So you might as well become a thief yourself.) There’s no point in paying your phone bill because no court can make you pay. (So there’s no point being a phone company.) There’s no point setting up an import business because the customs officers will be the ones to benefit. (So the customs office is underfunded and looks even harder for bribes.) There’s no point getting an education because jobs are not handed out on merit. (And in any case, you can’t borrow money for school fees because the bank can’t collect on the loan.)

A Day With Mom

I’m going to be gone for a while in July so I decided it would be a good weekend to spend a day with mom. She decided to join an alumni group from her university and that gives her access to a nice lakeside recreation center on Lake Whatcom. It was this recreation center we decided to visit because they have kayaks for a very cheap price. Continue reading “A Day With Mom” »

Day at The Park

I called up Jess this afternoon and he, Richard, and Michelle were going to the park to play some tennis and things so I came and tagged along. I met Richard and Michelle a couple weeks back at a game day in Jess’ apartment and they are fun to be around. Richard also brought along his dog Lydia who almost chewed through her leash while tied to the tree at the park. Haha. Continue reading “Day at The Park” »
