Final Thoughts on The Venetian

The rooms of The Venetian certainly were nice as I mentioned before. The service left me desiring a little however. I’m a bit tired of relating the story so I’ll give the short version.

After work on the second day my room key would not work. I went to my coworker’s room and used his phone to call and ask for another room key. After a few security-related questions they said they’d send one right up. About 30 minutes later a man came to the door and gave me the new keys. I went to try them and of course they didn’t work as well. I was tired of waiting around so I came back to my coworker’s room and called them again explaining I thought something was wrong with the door and asking them to send someone to look at the door. Again they said “right away” and so I figured it would be taken care of. Seeing how long it took them to send just a key, I went to another friend’s room who had an Xbox and some entertainment. I stayed there a couple hours then came back to my room to find the key still didn’t work — now it was really getting annoying. I went down to the front desk and explained exactly what had happened, including the fact that I had already tried different room keys. So they sent me up with another set of keys and told me to check in with the security to have them assist me. Basically, I ended up waiting another 30min after getting security to use their master lock and finally the engineers came up and had to reprogram my door before it worked. So it was about 3hrs from when I originally asked them to fix the door and I had to work early the next day. I expected an apology or something at least but I guess I was forgotten. I’m not one to complain loudly to the staff (that’s what my blog is for, right?) so I just stuck it out the rest of the week in my suite.

Sooooo, the entire time I was in Vegas I only got out of the hotel for about 3 or 4 hours total. I looked out to the bright morning sun every day before leaving my room and heading to the convention rooms, but that’s just the way it goes. It was still better than walking around in the rain in Washington to me. Oh, and one more good thing about the Venetian is their Internet price was reasonable at $4.98/24hrs when I’ve seen others as high as $17 for the same period. So yup, that’s enough Vegas for a while. On to L.A. this week!

Now I’m at the Venetian in Vegas

Yup, I’m back here again. And I have to say I think this hotel room is even nicer! The Venetian is an “all-suite” hotel so they don’t have any normal rooms. I didn’t bring my camera this time but maybe I’ll be able to borrow a friend’s to take a pic or two. My suite has 3 tvs — one in the bathroom, one in front of the bed and another in the sunken living room. The one in the living room actually has a DVD player as well. And I like the living room being sunken because it makes it feel like a separate living space. There is a nice L-shaped couch, small round dining table and a computer desk. The bathtub is not quite as nice but it’s still pretty good. The best thing really is that the convention I’m here for (MEDC) is in the hotel so I don’t have to drive anywhere.

One thing I’ve missed is it’s been very hot here the last couple days. 96 and 98 degrees Fahrenheit for highs I believe and I’ve been really looking forward to it but I’ve been stuck inside both days. Oh well, if I do make it outside it should still be nice.

Well, there is more to tell but I’m tired so I’m going to go to bed for my 6:30am crew call.

American Idol Laying It On a Bit Thick

This whole Idol Gives Back thing is gettin on my nerves. Sure the stuff they show is sad and supposed to be touching and it would be if I actually thought they cared. Call me cynical but I don’t really think one week of your show dedicated to people in need is really giving back.

Yea, they’re getting some donations for a couple days but what about the rest of the year? What are these quite-well-off individuals doing to help? If they are doing something let me know and I’ll eat my words but as far as they act the rest of the season I’m pretty sure this is just a clever marketing ploy to get more viewers… and the sad thing is it works.

That’s my rant.

Internet Radio Under Attack

Every once in a while certain really nice and useful things come under attack from corporations that are not making any / enough money with it. Right now it’s Internet Radio as a whole. I personally enjoy listening to Reggae and Dancehall music on BigUpRadio.com because there are no good local radio stations that play that music.

SaveNetRadio.org

Also in general there are much lower operating costs for these radio stations so you can usually find something that really interests you and it’s presented by people who are doing it because they are passionate about it. It’s wonderful!

Something from the site:

On March 2, 2007 the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB), which oversees sound recording royalties paid by Internet radio services, increased Internet radio’s royalty burden between 300 and 1200 percent and thereby jeopardized the industry’s future.

So please take a minute if you care and send a short message to tell congress that this is ridiculous!

La Rêve at The Wynn in Las Vegas

Pool at opening

I just returned to my hotel room at The Wynn after seeing their show La Rêve. What can I say that hasn’t already been said? Probably nothing but as usual I’ll still say it.

I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect and with tickets above $100 a piece it was a bit of work talking myself into it but I figured since I’m in Vegas and don’t gamble I should at least partake in a show! It’s described as a collection of dreams and advertised to be an aerial and aquatic show. It certainly surpassed all my expectations.

I’m not sure if the story line has much to do with it but as far as I could tell it begins with a woman going to sleep. Wait — first let me set the stage for you. Continue reading “La Rêve at The Wynn in Las Vegas” »
