Eek A Mouse Concert In Seattle

I have to say I did not enjoy this concert as much as the Morgan Heritage show I went to on Wednesday. I guess the crowd is just different and the style of performance is as well. Even when I was in Jamaica many people I asked did not know of Eek so most of you reading will probably not either but you can find more info on Eek A Mouse at wikipedia as always. For me he’s always just been fun to listen to so when I saw he would be at the same bar I saw Morgan Heritage I thought I may consider going. I wasn’t quite sure until I talked to a friend who was just looking for something to do and he was up for it.

Ganja has always been a part of Reggae culture and I’m sure it will never leave it but I’m not a big fan of the stuff myself. At the other show there was a song or two about it and they got everyone cheering about legalizing it for a short while but most of the time was spent just singing about love and crime and political things that carry more importance to me. At the Eek show it seemed it was all about ganja. Talking about it at almost every break, asking “What are you smo-o-king tonight?” in his musical voice to a response of cheers, people lighting up all around me… just not very enjoyable to me (or my friend for that matter).

But hey, I learned something about what kind of shows I will enjoy and what I probably won’t. I would love to go to the Showbox and see Stephen Marley ft. Junior Gong in April but unfortunately I will be in Vegas on a show. That show may have lots of smoke but the music would be so worth it. I guess another time.

Morgan Heritage Concert in Seattle

I finally got to go to a Reggae concert! I tried to see Anthony B back in November but that fell through. This time it was Morgan Heritage which is a great reggae band that’s been around for a while. I had always heard of them but never paid them much attention until recently I saw a music video on a reggae dvd I got from lyricdvdmag.com. It’s the same video that you’ll see below. Really good song, great voices, great presence and interaction with the crowd. Could have listened to them all night long. I went with another RPCV who is up here in Seattle and we went to a Jamaican restaurant and got jerk chicken and rice and peas for dinner before the show. She also showed me a place that imports Ting — a wonderful grapefruit flavored soft drink I love from Jamaica. I bought 6 at $2 a bottle. Expensive considering they go for about $.50(US) in Jamaica but sometimes you just gotta have what you want! I’m going to look to see if I can get it cheaper by ordering by the case online. Anyways, there were some definitely Jamaican looking people at the concert and certainly a few gorgeous black women which reminded me of the island and almost gave me the feeling of being back.

Enjoy the video!

My Network Attached Storage Solution – Part 2

I sure wasn’t wrong about there being issues when setting up some new computer system. It’s part of what makes working with computers so challenging and fun but it can also be quite frustrating. I did get my case, motherboard and power supply the day after my hard drives arrived and everything was assembled for me which is a plus. They even installed the two extra PATA to SATA power converter plugs that I requested. Disappointing thing was that my hard drives didn’t come with any SATA data cables so I had to purchase those at a local store the next day. I also thought I had forgotten my DVD drive at my grandma’s house until I looked in one of my suitcases which still has some of my things in it. I got that in and was able to boot from the install CD then install the FreeNAS to my 128MB USB jump drive. It booted fine once I found the BIOS settings which were a little cryptic but then it wouldn’t find my Gigabit NIC on the motherboard. I did some searching and found that the particular onboard NIC is not supported by FreeBSD which is what is running under FreeNAS. Very annoying. House — Yes, that TV show…

All my friends and even some family seem to love this show but I just don’t get it. I’ve been made to watch it on numerous occassions and none of it makes too much sense to me. I think Mad TV does justice to how I see every episode:
